The star has handed over the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award cash to the trust for venues, which functions to save the UK's grassroots live music spots.

He was awarded the cheque on 16 October as his third album People Watching was named the top album of the last 12 months.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the vital role small stages fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the gigs I played around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These spaces are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly 16% of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by including a modest fee to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to support numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The money helped venues that were confronting imminent closure due to issues stemming from floods, blazes and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and sound issues.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in improving infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that helped artists and fans.

"The idea that money from performances in big venues backs the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

Fender is not the first artist to donate his honor funds to charitable organizations.

In they earned the trophy in 1996 for their release Different Class, frontman Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would give their cash to the charity the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite split her award between a few charities, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I donated a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they required updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with a publication.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their prize money to the youth organization that supported their group, as well as other independent music bodies.

Also winners that year M People donated their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was identified with the illness.

"The victory was ample," said singer Heather Small. "The money was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning affected another person's life."

Last week, the MVT revealed it had protected several small stages in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in the city and the second in Bristol were purchased under the public acquisition initiative, which is supported by Arts Council England and supporters who purchase "shares" in the buildings.
